Cosmetic Dentistry
This is a branch of dentistry in which the main focus is the esthetic results. The reshaping of a tooth or a number of teeth can dramatically improve a person's over all appearance and improve ones self-confidence. Cosmetic dentistry, a comprehensive oral care that combines art and science to optimally improve the looks of a patient.

Today's common cosmetic dental treatment options include:

Dental Veneers
These could be described as something very similar to false fingernails. Tooth veneers are a very thin shield of ceramic or poly ceramic material placed on the facial surface of a tooth. Dental veneers are alternative approach to cosmetic dentistry as the need to reduce or reshape natural tooth structure is minimal, but can have a very dramatic improvement to ones smile. Veneers are ultra-thin, custom-made laminates that are bonded directly to the teeth. They are an option for closing gaps or disguising discolored teeth that do not respond well to whitening procedures.

Dental Implants
These are metal screws that are integrated into the abutment. This screw is fixed in the jaw and rises above the soft tissue (gums) in the mouth. An individual crown or a bridge may be cemented to the abutment. An individual implant may be used to restore an area where a single tooth is missing, eliminating the need for dental bridges. Multiple dental implants may be used to restore an edentulous area or a series of missing teeth, eliminating the need for partial dentures.

Tooth Whitening
Your dentist may prescribe any one of a variety of treatment methods to whiten the color of your teeth. Whitening, a most common cosmetic dental procedure. While many whitening options are now available, dentist-supervised treatments remain the recommended procedures for lightening discolored teeth.

Dental Crowns
These are commonly referred to as caps, is a procedure that includes the reshaping of an entire tooth, then covering it with natural cooking, lab fabricated crown. A dental crown can be used to replace a chipped, broken, decayed, misaligned, or discolored tooth.

Dental Bridges
These are used when a patient is missing one or more teeth but still have one healthy tooth to both to the right and the left of the space that is missing teeth. Just as in dental crowns, the teeth to the left and right of the empty space are reshaped. The two reshaped teeth act as anchors, or "abutments," and a bridge of new teeth cover the two reshaped teeth and fill the empty space at the same time. This is known as a fixed bridge. This procedure is used to replace one or more missing teeth. Fixed bridges cannot removed as you might do with partial dentures. In areas of your mouth that are under less stress, such as your front teeth, a cantilever bridge may be used. Cantilever bridges are used when there are teeth on only one side of the open space. Bridges can reduce your risk of gum disease, help correct some bite issues and even improve your speech. Bridges require your commitment to oral hygiene, but may last as many as ten years or more.

Contouring
This is also known as tooth reshaping, is one of few instant treatments now available in cosmetic dentistry. Dental reshaping and contouring is a procedure to correct crooked teeth, chipped teeth, cracked teeth or even overlapping teeth in just one session. The dental contouring procedure can even be a substitute for braces under certain circumstances. It is also a procedure of subtle changes. A few millimeters of reduction and a few millimeters of tooth-colored laminate is involved. Tooth reshaping, or dental contouring, is commonly used to alter the length, shape or position of teeth.

Enamel shaping
This procedure involves removing parts of the contouring enamel to improve the appearance of the tooth. It may be used to correct a very small chip. The removed enamel is irreplaceable, and may sometimes expose dentin. It is also known as enameloplasty, odontoplasty, recontouring, reshaping, slenderizing and stripping.

Bonding
This is a process in which an enamel-like dental composite material is applied to a tooth's surface, sculpted into shape, hardened and then polished.

Gum Lift
This is a cosmetic dental procedure that raises and sculpts the gum line. The procedure involves reshaping the tissue and / or underlying bones to create the appearance of more symmetrical gum lines. This is also known as gingivectomy.
